The Photographs

All of the photographs on this site were produced digitally. The most recent were taken with my current camera - a Canon 20D - but many were taken with previous cameras - an assortment of Canons and Nikons. My photographic technique is very simple. Almost all my photgraphs are hand-held and all of them are taken with no additional lighting. The manipulation of most of these images before printing is deliberately kept to a minimum - cropping and exposure correction only. In a small number of cases, I have performed more serious digital manipulation, mainly erasing unwanted elements of the image. (The potential of digital technology to create brand-new imagery that didn't or couldn't exist in nature is truly exciting. I have not yet explored this to any great extent, but I intend to in the future.)

The subjects of these photographs are the people and landscape around my home in the San Francisco Bay Area and in places I have been fortunate enough to visit. I carry my camera with me almost all the time, which allows me to shoot places and people on impulse. These are 'snapshots' in the truest sense of the term.
